I don’t feel that I am especially moralistic, but if I projected that kind of impression maybe it is because I have an Aquaria Sun and Aquaria rising. Aquaria archetype relates to liberation and decondition from crystallized consciousness pattern/conformity to the consensus (Capricorn archetype). Aquarians can produce some kind of unpleasant shock to the existing condition, causing the questioning about social norms, and thus triggering transformation on a person and collective level. We all have Uranus/Aquaria in our astrology charts; the difference is the degree of it in our total makeup and your awareness about it. And keep in mind that Saturn and Jupiter will be conjunct in the next hundred something years in air elements with the nearest coming one in 2020 in Aquaria zone. The theme of intellect, education, abstract thinking, ideal, philosophical discussion, scholastic pursuit, brainy concepts, will soon get focused; so will the tension of individual creativity versus group/collective consideration get emphasized in the next twenty years after that. Psychologically, the counter current of rational cognitive objective versus emotional bonding and sentiment/passion/caring will need integration for balance. So I feel a need to bring out these thoughts for discussion and contemplation.
Recently there are teachers’ strike in State of Oklahoma and Kentucky. I am sympathetic of their request to increase salary. I feel only when the profession of teaching is elevated in our society, then it can attract talents to this industry, and creating a competitive condition for improvement in this field of work, thus increase the quality for the public education.
Of course, the funding is the issue. This depends on, as collective, how we perceive the importance of human resources cultivation and willingness to allocate resource to the area. As it goes in the West that it takes three generations to make a gentleman, in Chinese there is a similar proverb saying it take ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to cultivate people. So education is long-term cycle of development that cannot be evaluated by short-term matrix – which is a dilemma we are in with our education system.
In Emmanuel Kant’s time, the teachers’ income is tied to the seats of student attendance for each class (he is a university professor). So Kant got enough income from his teaching position and was able to write his research paper with independent objective analysis. Nowadays, many of institution/universities are busy for getting funding and corporate sponsorship, teaching is a secondary concern. The reality is corporates steer the agenda of research, in certain degree hinders the development of candor and direct expression of intellectuals and analysts, suffocating true creativity. Some of the obvious case in point can be seen in pharmaceutical companies manipulation of medical education.
Or in the case of Federal Reserve taming debates. In the book Fed Power – How Finance Wins, Lawrence Jacobs and Desmond King, two independent researcher, revealed how Fed wrapped three potentially suffocating tentacles around the necks of researchers and analysts (mostly trained in economics) who are best positioned to disrupt its power and to question its alliances with finance:
- Fed invests about $400 million a year in researchers who might raise meaningful challenges.
- Editors and members of the editorial boars of the premier publications on Fed policy simultaneously get cash from the Fed and decide what articles get published and whose career moves forward – or shrivels.
- The Fed controls the lifeblood of research – supplying data and bestowing the status necessary for advancement by extending conference invitations, visiting positions, and lucrative contracts.
As human we are constantly fighting two opposing desires – one being separate from that which created the soul in the first place, the other is to return to the source. The separation desire is shown as resistance to the change of existing condition and defend the ego. The paradox is the trials of human experience, the ordeals that assault the ego, yet eventually strengthen the soul. Outer planets, as transpersonal planets, work as higher octave energies prompting the struggles for integration on long term basis, at personal and collective level. When we surrender and take on these energy as spiritual gifts, we can reach our higher potential. When we try to control, manipulate or fight these energies for the serve of ego, we succumb to the darker side of expression, ending up debilitate our true meaning for life.
Our collective evolutionary trend can be seen from the inter aspects among the outer planets and their cycles: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. In psychological terms, Uranus represents the freedom urge, the planet of originality, the awakening and breaking with tradition – the power to transform. Neptune is the idealist, returning to the creator urge, the inspirational principle, the capacity to transcend ordinary mundane hardship into meaning and purpose. Pluto is about intensity, brute force in destruction and regeneration, the function of trans-morphosis. These energies, correlated to our unconscious inner urge, are very hard to deal with. Without spiritual anchor, they are prone to manifested as darker side: Uranus as riots/irresponsible laissez faire , Neptune as delusion/illusion, Pluto as power struggle.
Evolutionary Astrology categorizes the development cycle of planetary aspects into eight phrase. The ones that most related to our current situation of last fifty years of outer planetary interplay are: New phrase for initiation (0-45 degree waxing); Crescent phrase for Internalized Consolidation ( 45-90 degree aspect); First Quarter phrase for Crisis in Action (90-135 degree aspect).
Our most recent memory of transpersonal planetary energy is the 2008 financial crisis and its aftermath during the Uranus in Aries waxing square Pluto in Capricorn. This first quarter phrase(90-135 degree) of the pair was initiated when the two planets were in conjunction (New phrase – 0-45 degree) in the mid-1960th in Virgo. Virgo is about analysis, process/methodology for self improvement. It also correlates to natural resources, environment, health. Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo is about breaking the old pattern/structure and create new forms of reality related to the above mentioned applications. Through the Virgo archetype of self-perfection and purification process, we potentially become prepared for the next archetype of Libra, where we learn to operate in human society/cosmic universe in relationships as an equal. If in the 1960s, the impulse was expressed as sort of instinctual rushing out for change as a random hit-or-miss type of action , now fifty something years later, when the issues are much defined, question becomes what action should we take given the issue at hand? It is the stage of crisis in action. How we handle the problems will affect the development around the time bend of 2046-2048 when Uranus and Pluto in full opposition, the culmination of issues initiated in the mid-1960s.
In the 1960s, when Uranus conjunction Pluto, Neptune was in Scorpio in a easy aspect of sixty degree from the conjunction. Scorpio correlated to mystic, sex, regeneration, transformative power. The high ideals stimulated the urge to break old and create new. Then we had the Uranus Neptune conjunction of 1993 in Capricorn (New phrase of 0-45 degree). It came the revolution(Uranus) of consciousness (Neptune) in the form of internet. Uranus, the planet of shock and unexpected, has accelerated mind process at an speed unfathomably in all past millenniums. The technology break down all the previous framework of how we communicate, learning things, related to each other. Uranus also correlate to brain nerve snaps. The information explosion short circuit our nerve system, and made us scramble in confusion. With the speed up of everything, we notice more nerve break-down and increase of neurosis seizure in people’s behaviors – repercussions of Uranus/Neptune energy.
As Uranus soon entering Taurus, it will form New Phrase semi-square aspect (45 degree ) with Neptune in Pisces. This is the point before entering into Crescent phrase of internal consolidation. Psychologically, we still want to keep the freedom of New Phrase, the semi-square comes as an heightened awareness to frame what we do in the context of society and establish self-effort to fulfill our social obligation. This manifested as need for as internet/technology to work in a way that supports social betterment, reorganizing the broken parts of system into a more coherent functional manner. So the semi-square of Uranus to Neptune is another reiteration of the theme of the Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo.
How do we implement those impulse/evolutionary pressure into feasible solutions, what should we do to facilitate the change needed to achieve the larger order of purpose – to arrive to a unified arching guiding principle in the globalization era, to reconcile our spiritual yearning in a science/technology dominated culture, to gain insights into our unconscious psyche and channel our destructive tendencies into creative outlets, to harmonize our relationship with natural and other species – driving all these underneath pressure into the play fields of education, communication, media, medical/food/nutrition, social value, societal contract, civil rights, democracy, environment protection ? Such wide implications are upon everyone of us to reflect as our personal responsibility as well as our collective resolution…
